CANTON — Approximately sixty non-profit, government and private disaster recovery experts from across Massachusetts and other areas of New England met at the Salvation Army’s Canton, MA headquarters on October 30th for a Massachusetts Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster full day summit.

The opening speech was an enlightening review by Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency Public Affairs Director, Peter Judge, of how a large flood with great damage was handled in a very rural area of Alaska where there were no roads to bring in emergency help The closing remarks came from Aaron Titus of Crisis CleanUp which covered how to ensure that all calls for help are properly organized so that none fall through the cracks.
The break out sessions covered the recent disaster recovery scenarios as well as best practices in the following areas of helping with disaster:

2. Donations Management
3. Spiritual/Emotion Care
4. Large Event (major catastrophes) Response
